Last week our long-term customer in Los Angeles, the USA who ordered the single motor and dual motor electric height adjustable desk frames was in a hurry to ship out a shipment of two containers.
We booked the shipment two weeks in advance and the shipment was shipped 5 days earlier than the order. When it was delivered to the US warehouse in Shanghai, the driver was queuing in front of the warehouse for 4 days.
The shipment was scheduled for September 21, but the freight forwarder informed us that the shipment was delayed until the early hours of October 8, as all the ships from Los Angeles were delayed and we had to wait in a hurry.
In mid-September, a record number of ships were waiting to enter the US California coast – 73 container ships were stranded in California ports waiting to enter the Los Angeles and Long Beach port areas, almost twice as many as one months earlier.
The Port of Los Angeles, the busiest gateway for US trade with Asia, has seen a 30.3% increase in throughput so far this year compared to 2020. According to the Port of Los Angeles, the average wait time for cargo ships coming into the port was 8.7 days, compared to 6.2 days in mid-August. The longest waiting time was for a ship that arrived on August 23, a wait of nearly a month.
Industry insiders said the major congestion in the Los Angeles and Long Beach port areas was mainly due to a significant rebound in consumer demand in the United States, with retailers making a major restocking push and a significant increase in imported cargo, putting already tight cargo flow capacity in even greater difficulty. Gene Seroka, executive director of the Port of Los Angeles, said cargo throughput at the port had surged by 50% compared to the pre-epidemic period.
We have several other US customers’ shipments of dual motor electric standing desk frames to arrange next and it looks like this delay will continue for a longer period of time.
